Leave space for appliances

Leave some room behind appliances that heat up, like coffee machines and computers, to allow them to cool down. Keep all of your business appliances away from combustible materials, like paper or cloth. If possible, unplug these appliances at the end of the day as most business fires occur after typical operating hours.

Clean everything

All areas of the business will then need to be cleaned and deodorized, including the walls, floors, ceilings and carpets. While that might seem like the end of the process, further steps are essential to preventing additional damage that can set in after a fire. Hidden fire damages, like smoke, also need to be carefully addressed.

No matter what type of business you own and operate, you should have the appropriate insurance to cover any fires that destroy your material goods or space. In addition to having insurance to cover the costs of any fire emergencies, you should also have a backup that syncs regularly between your business’s server and cloud technology. You should also have digital copies of all important physical documents. This ensures that the destruction of any computers or materials will not completely compromise or eliminate your important documents and papers.
